Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi along with the party's general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has arrived in Chennai to attend the DMK Women's Rights Conference on Saturday.
The conference, which will be chaired by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, will press the central government for the immediate implementation of a 33 per cent reservation of women in Parliament and state assemblies.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) unanimously supported the idea of a caste census in the country and called it a "progressive and powerful step."
The Central Election Committee meeting of Congress to finalise candidates for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections was held in the national capital on Saturday at the party headquarters.
Addressing a press conference here, Kanimozhi said that a galaxy of top women leaders of the Opposition-led INDIA alliance, including Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi and PDA Chief Mehbooba Mufti will attend the conference.
Congress General Secreatry Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday met one of the family members who lost seven members of her family on August 14 in the Shiv temple collapse in Shimla where 20 people died due to a landslide.
"Congress workers must condemn such comments and senior leaders of Congress, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and party chief are silent on this and this shows their (Congress) culture and by keeping silent, they are supporting such comments," said Dhami.
"The kind of words he used for the Prime Minister of our country and Haryana Chief Minister, so far neither Sonia Gandhi nor Mallikarjun Kharge spoke a word on this," the Haryana BJP state party chief said.
