Villagers in Kalaburagi hail MGNREGA scheme for employment during pandemic

Kalaburagi (Karnataka), Feb 16 (ANI): Residents of Honnakiranagi village in Kalaburagi hailed Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme for proving employment during COVID-19 pandemic. According to a worker, "Earlier, people used to go to cities for jobs. Now, people are working in their area and getting payment within 10 days.” According to Kalaburagi Agriculture Department Assistant Director C Jeevanagi, “Even educated employees are seeking jobs under MGNREGA scheme. Around 45,000 saplings have been planted in the (Honnakiranagi) panchayat. MGNREGA is helping to stop migration towards cities.”
