Udhampur (J&K), Dec 13 (ANI): An eminent Urdu fiction writer, poet and critique have been awarded with J&K State Award. Balraj Bakshi was conferred the award for his outstanding contribution in the development of Urdu literature and language. The award includes a cash amount of Rs 51,000 along with a shawl and a citation. Balraj hails from Adarsh Colony area of Udhampur and was born in 1968. Bakshi’s inclination towards Urdu poetry and short stories became evident at a very young age. The sophistication in the language attracted him like anything and he started penning down poetry when he was a child. Urdu has been the official language of J&K for over a century now, but strangely this is for the first time that an Urdu writer has been honoured by the J&K UT Government. Bakshi was also nominated as a member of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State Council for the promotion of Urdu Language.
