Sekrenyi festival celebrated with fervor and gaiety in Nagaland

Dimapur (Nagaland) (ANI): Sekrenyi festival or ‘Purification and Sanctification’ was celebrated at Northern Angami Colony in Dimapur on February 25. The festival was organised by the Chakhro Angami Kuda Union (CAKU) of the Angami Nagas. The festival was graced by Zaleo Rio, Advisor for Excise, Sericulture & Minority Affairs, and the Government of Nagaland. Sekrenyi signifies the celebration of purification and sanctification. The objective of the festival is to renew and "make holy" by cleansing the "body and the soul". Kizhie rituals are performed by the woman folks while men of the house especially the young unmarried men clean the wells of the house. Zhato Kimho, President of CAKU said that to inculcate better knowledge and understanding of culture among the youth of today, such occasions should, and will be held regularly.
