Leh (Ladakh), Aug 21(ANI): Women in Leh have been empowered by National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) implemented by Ministry of Rural Development. Scheme launched in Ladakh in 2015, was first implemented in Chushot Block. Under this scheme, the idea is to organize Self Help Groups (SHGs) and impart them with basic trainings to make them capable of self-employment. NRLM has been proved to be beneficial as a poverty alleviation project. Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), Sonam Chosjor said, “In Chushot, around 140 SHGs were provided training in various banking facilities by Resource Persons from Andhra Pradesh. Those SHGs were provided skills and financial linkages and made capable of growing their own small businesses.” These businesses were demand oriented and spanned across a number of fields like weaving, tailoring etc. Through such businesses, these SHGs are enabled to create their own livelihoods.
