New tree varieties improve almond harvesting in Kashmir

J&K, Sept 03 (ANI): Favourable weather conditions and new varieties of trees have improved almond quality in Kashmir. Almond fields in Kashmir are abuzz these days with almond harvesting in its final stages. With the assistance of Central institute for Temperate Horticulture (CITH) and Shere-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) almond quality has significantly improved, eliciting good feedback in the market. Scientists of CITH and SKUAST have played vital role in overall development of almond cultivation in the valley. Shalimar, Makhdoom, Waris, and Kagzi are among the world famous varieties of almond that fetch high prices in the market. Kashmir valley is blessed with cultivation of superior quality fruit crops including apples, pears, cherries, grapes, pomegranates, mulberry, peaches, apricots, walnuts.
