Imphal (Manipur), Feb 1(ANI): Kongbrailatpam Ningol Hanjabam Ongbi Radhe of Thoubal district has been conferred the Padma Shri for his role in preserving Manipuri traditional bridal wear. She has been acknowledged for the art of making ‘Potloi’ (a traditional bridal costume of the Meitei community in Manipur) and also as a ‘Potloi setpi’ (bridal dresser). Thanking her teacher, Longjam Ongbi Priyasakhi, the 88-year-old artisan shares that her hard work has paid off. “I started this art of Potloi making in my late 20s”, says Hanjabam. To save this old aged culture, Radhe shared it with the present Potloi makers to maintain its originality.
