Manipur: Media houses protest over grenade attack at newspaper office

Imphal (Manipur) Feb 16 (ANI): Following an incident of lobbing a grenade at a office of Poknapham and the People’s Chronicle, local news dailies in Keisampat Thiyam Leikai, on Feb 13, the members of the media offices and local newspapers have been staging a sit-in protest. According to sources, a woman in a two-wheeler entered the office premises and lobbed the hand grenade at the two local newspaper offices on Feb 13. Condemning the attack, the Editors Guild of Manipur (EGM) and All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) on Monday jointly resolved to cease publication and broadcast of news for another 48 hours from Monday midnight. Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the situation.
