IMA on nationwide strike against decision to allow Ayurveda students to perform surgeries

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) / Hyderabad, Dec 11 (ANI): Members of Indian Medical Association (IMA) protested on December 11 in parts of the country after the association called for a nation-wide strike today against government’s decision to allow postgraduate Ayurveda students to study and perform surgeries. The members of Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) staged protest in the city today with banners in Gujarati language. They demanded roll back of this decision. A protester said, “This is wrong as we medical science practitioners work and study really hard to get here.” IMA’s members in Ludhiana, Hyderabad and Amritsar also demonstrated in their respective cities to register their protest. The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) has modified the Postgraduate Ayurveda Education Regulations, 2016 and allowed postgraduate Ayurveda surgery students to practice 58 surgical procedures after obtaining formal training.
