Gujarat local body polls: Counting of votes begins

Vadodara/ Rajkot/ Surat/ Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Feb 23 (ANI): The counting of votes polled in elections to six municipal corporations of Gujarat began on February 23. Counting of votes for Gujarat local body polls is taking place at a polling centre in Vadodara. Vadodara recorded the turnout of 47.84%. The elections of local body polls were held on February 21. Rajkot recorded the turnout of 50.72%. Counting of votes is underway at a counting centre in Surat at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology. Surat recorded the turnout of 47.14%. The six civic bodies- Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar were being ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ahmedabad recorded the lowest turnout of 42.51% on voting day.
