DU Colleges reopen, teachers call it ‘half-baked exercise’

New Delhi, Feb 01 (ANI): After a gap of 10 months, colleges of Delhi University re-opened on February 01, as the spread of COVID-19 slows. The university has been shut since March last year due to nationwide lockdown announced then to contain COVID-19. However, DUTA (Delhi University Teachers’ Association) president Rajib Ray, and several lecturers have criticised the move, even calling it “half-baked exercise”, and alleging that teachers were not consulted before taking the decision. Miranda House lecturer Abha Dev Habib said, "We got last-minute notice about reopening for practical exams of final year. It's optional for students. DU has 80% outstation students. With hostels closed, it's half-baked exercise." Meanwhile, President of Delhi University Teachers' Association president Rajib Ray claimed that teachers were not consulted before reopening of the colleges. “Infrastructural conditions for WiFi is not available in most colleges. There are not many students here. Teachers were not consulted before the decision to reopen was announced. Preparations are not up to mark,” said DUTA President.
