COVID update: Recovery rate nears 74% even as total cases eyeing 30 lakh-mark

New Delhi, Aug 20 (ANI): Even as the daily coronavirus cases continue to shoot up, India’s recovery rate has improved to 73.91 percent with 20,96,664 people overcoming the deadly virus across the country. Number of active cases is 6,86,395. Total number of cases is likely to cross the 30 lakh-mark in the next two days. State wise, Maharashtra is the worst-affected as the western state recorded single day spike of 14,492 infections. With 326 new deaths, a total of 21,359 people have succumbed to the virus. 1,62,491 cases are active. Karnataka saw a rise of 7,385 new cases and 102 deaths on August 20, taking the number of active infections to 82,149. 5,986 new cases and 116 deaths were reported in Tamil Nadu on August 20 which took the active caseload to 53,283. Delhi reported 1,215 new cases and 22 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total active cases are 11,271. The national capital has an impressive recovery rate of over 90%. In positive news, India tested record 9,18,470 COVID samples on Aug 19.
