‘Attempt to corrupt healthcare system’: IMA on allowing Ayurveda students to perform surgeries

Updated:5 years, 1 month ago

New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): After the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) allowed postgraduate Ayurveda students to practice 58 surgical procedures after obtaining formal training, the president of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dr Rajan Sharma called it an “an attempt to corrupt the healthcare system of the country”. IMA president Dr Rajan Sharma said, “It is an attempt to corrupt the healthcare system of the country. Citing shortage of doctors, it takes years and years to become a doctor and now is creating such ‘mixopaths’. Any nation is doomed to failure when you compromise on health and food. It is a big fraud on our medical students. Modern medicine is controlled and research-oriented. We are not against any sort of pathy weather it is Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Yunani. We are proud of our national heritage and richness of Ayurveda. Let it co-exist but the two shouldn't be mixed.” Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for nation-wide strike today, demanding roll back of this decision.
