Amritsar govt hospital in spotlight for violating biomedical waste rules

Amritsar (Punjab), June 12 (ANI): Amritsar's Guru Nanak Dev Hospital sanitation workers were seen carrying dustbins containing biomedical waste on stretchers and wheelchairs which are allegedly also used for patients. They were also seen throwing the biomedical waste in general dustbins.Meanwhile, Punjab Pollution Control Board’s Sub-Divisional Officer Baldev Singh was seen taking notes of the incident. He said this is total violation of biomedical waste rules. “We received complaints regarding biomedical waste mismanagement at Amritsar’s Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. During checking, biomedical waste, such as used gloves and cotton pads were found in their general dump. It's violation of norms set for dumping biomedical waste,” said Singh.
