This week’s episode of News Week South Asia focuses on the strict measures being taken by Indian army to eliminate Pak backed terrorists from Kashmir. As LoC continues to remain a war zone owing to the constant firing and ceasefire violations by Pakistan to push infiltrators into Kashmir, vigilant Indian forces despite suffering losses manage to foil all devious agendas of Pakistan. Continuing with the spate of encounters that have taken place recently in the valley, Indian security forces eliminated at least 8 terrorists in just one day, hiding in the Shopian & Pulwama districts of Kashmir. On the other side, exposing Pakistan over its gross human rights violation, state sponsored terrorism and ill treatment of minorities, India at the 43rd session of UN Human Rights council said that Islamabad should practice tolerance towards their minorities and "good neighbourliness" for the eternal peace in the South Asian region. Meanwhile, Afghanistan has entered a pivotal but highly uncertain time. Hopes for an end to Afghanistan’s decades old conflict have risen again as the Afghan government and Taliban have finally agreed to begin long awaited peace talks in Qatar’s capital Doha in near future. However, the Taliban has already made it clear that the process will not begin until the complete release of Taliban prisoners detained by Afghan government. Furthermore, terrorist groups like the Islamic state, Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Taliban to name a few have been using the social media and their digital publications to influence youth and lure them towards jihad. A recently released research paper by European Foundation for South Asian Studies highlights the interlink between the online space and Islamist radicalization that is aimed at expanding the outreach of extremist ideologies among the gullible youth.
