Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat has moved an application to the Supreme Court and alleged that there were hate speeches by leaders of certain religious outfits.
The Women Lawyers Forum of Delhi High Court on Thursday in a letter-petition to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) urged the court to prevent incidents of hate speech and take action against those who have perpetrated it.
Bittu Bajrangi was arrested by Nuh Police on Tuesday after a case was registered against him and 15-20 others in connection with the violence that broke out in Nuh on July 31.
According to a spokesperson of Faridabad police, Bittu Bajranig, accused of raising slogans in front of a female police officer in Nuh with weapons like swords, was arrested after questioning.
Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on Independence Day, AIMIM leader and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi has said that PM should condemn targeted violence against one community in the country in his speech.
The court asked ASG to seek instructions from the Centre and inform it about the committee on the next date of the hearing to look into the cases of hate speech.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court Chandigarh held a hearing on Friday regarding the Nuh violence case. The matter was adjourned, and the next hearing will be before the Chief Justice, as only the Chief Justice hears Su Moto and PIL cases, officials said.
A nine-member delegation of senior Haryana Congress leaders, visiting Nuh district, where violence broke out days ago, was stopped by the police on Tuesday.
"We have started the bus services from Nuh to Jaipur, Gurugram, and other nearby regions. Services have been resumed on a routine basis," a roadways official told ANI.
"According to the media reports so far, about 176 demolition cases have come to light. If the High Court had not taken cognizance, the number could have increased," Mohammad Arshad said.
