The voter turnout in the first phase of voting for Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections was recorded at 41.17 per cent as of 1 pm on Wednesday, according to the Election Commission.
Ahead of the crucial Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir which are being held after a gap of 10 years Union Home Minister Amit Shah drew the battle lines and said that this election is between the BJP and the alliance between Congress and the National Conference.
"This year, the elections to Jammu Kashmir assembly are going to be held between th dynasties and the youth of Jammu and Kashmir," PM Modi said in his first rally in the election bound erstwhile State.
An encounter between terrorists and security forces in the Chak Taper Kreeri Pattan area of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir is underway, officials said on Saturday.
According to Indian Army officials, "Four Indian Army soldiers have been injured in the ongoing encounter with terrorists in Kishtwar. One of the injured has been evacuated to the nearby Command Hospital for treatment, while three are being treated locally."
"The massive door-to-door campaign will be led by J-K Incharge Tarun Chug in Kishtwar, and Padder-Nagseni segment Ram Madhav will lead the campaign in Kathua and Hiranagar along with a large number of party workers," said the release.
Ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Elections, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda Range, Shridhar Patil on Thursday said that they have sufficient security forces to ensure free and fair elections.
As many as 279 candidates have filed their nomination papers across 24 Assembly Constituencies of seven districts of Jammu and Kashmir which are going to the polling in the first phase of the J-K Assembly Election 2024.
The Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, RR Swain, on Friday visited the Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu zone to assess the security situation and review preparations for the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections.
