DGP J-K visits Doda, Kishtwar to review security scenario, election preparedness

The Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, RR Swain, on Friday visited the Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu zone to assess the security situation and review preparations for the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 23 (ANI): The Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, RR Swain, on Friday visited the Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu zone to assess the security situation and review preparations for the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections.
Swain was accompanied by senior officers, including Special DG and DGP Designate Nalin Prabhat, ADGP Law and Order Vijay Kumar, and ADGP Jammu Zone Anand Jain.
Swain began his visit from Shri Machail Mata Mandir in Machail Padder, where he reviewed security arrangements for the ongoing Machail Mata Yatra 2024.
During the daylong visit, he chaired high-level security review and election preparedness meetings at the District Police Office (DPO) in Kishtwar and at the Dak Bungalow, Bhaderwah, in Doda district. During his back-to-back meetings, Swain reviewed the security strategies for the upcoming elections in both districts. Chairing these meetings, the DGP issued directives aimed at countering terrorism and ensuring free, fair conduct of the elections. He emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among Jammu-Kashmir Police, CRPF, Army, civil administration and intelligence agencies.
The officers during these meetings also discussed arrangements for adequate accommodation and amenities for troops who will be deployed for the election. Discussions were held on security-related matters and the DGP was appraised about the action plans to mitigate the challenges and other issues related to security.
During these high-level meetings, SSP Kishtwar, Abdul Qayoom and SSP Doda Mohd Aslam gave detailed presentations on the current security scenario and the preparations that were underway for the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections in those districts.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar and officers of the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), intelligence agencies of District Kishtwar attended the meeting at DPO Kishtwar, and Deputy Commissioner Doda and officers of Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), intelligence agencies of District Doda attended the meeting at Dak Bungalow, Bhaderwah in Doda.
The DGP also inspected the Police Control Room (PCR) in Kishtwar and the CCTV surveillance room establishments at DPO Kishtwar. He issued directions to enhance surveillance and monitoring.
Earlier, the DGP and accompanying officers paid homage to J&K Police fallen heroes by laying wreaths at the martyrs' memorial in Kishtwar.
Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1. The results will be announced on October 4.
The Election Commission has issued notification for the first phase of assembly seats for 24 seats. This is the first assembly poll in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. (ANI)
