The heat in Rajasthan has once again increased and people of the state have been grappling with a continuous heatwave. Although the situation is likely to be persistent, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) says that people can get some relief after four to five days.
"Heatwave to severe heat wave conditions are likely over many parts of Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi on 18th June 2024 and heat wave conditions are likely over isolated places over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Bihar and Jharkhand," IMD sa
As the country endures the scorching summer heat, even the usually cool Himachal Pradesh is not spared, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for some parts of the state.
The met body has also said that occasional intense spells of rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also very likely in the region.
"Arunachal Pradesh is likely to get heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) on 17th & 18th June, 2024," the met office said in a post on 'X'.
Crops sown during June-July and dependent on monsoon rains are harvested in October-November are kharif. Paddy, moong, bajra, maize, groundnut, soybean, and cotton are some of the major Kharif crops.
According to IMD, East Uttar Pradesh experienced widespread severe heat, while parts of Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, south Uttarakhand, and north Odisha faced heatwave to severe heatwave conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Friday, that light to moderate rainfall is likely over the northeast and eastern regions of the country during the next couple of hours.
Shimla recorded the highest temperature of the season, 30.6 degrees Celsius for the month of June in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday. Surender Paul, head of IMD Himachal Pradesh, said that the heatwave condition would continue till June 17.
Head Eastern Region, IMD Kolkata Dr Somnath Dutta said that widespread rainfall is expected in 5 districts of North Bengal up to June 18. He further said that Kolkata is expected to get rain on June 16, 17 and 18.
