Widespread rainfall expected in 5 districts of North Bengal up to June 18: IMD

Head Eastern Region, IMD Kolkata Dr Somnath Dutta said that widespread rainfall is expected in 5 districts of North Bengal up to June 18. He further said that Kolkata is expected to get rain on June 16, 17 and 18.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 12 (ANI): Widespread rainfall is expected in 5 districts of North Bengal up to June 18, said Head Eastern Region, IMD Kolkata Dr Somnath Dutta. He added that Kolkata is expected to get rain on June 16, 17 and 18.
Dr Dutta said, "Today widespread rainfall has been predicted in 5 districts of North Bengal including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar. In North Dinajpur, there is a forecast of scattered rainfall while in Maldah and South Dinajpur, there is a prediction of isolated rainfall. In South West Bengal except Howrah, Kolkata and coastal districts, there is prediction of isolated rainfall elsewhere."
He further said that for June 13 also forecast is also similar for North Bengal and widespread rainfall is predicted in the 5 districts, scattered in North Dinajpur and isolated in the other two districts. In South Bengal isolated rainfall is predicted except Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata and 24 Parganas.
"On June 14 in South Bengal, all districts will have scattered or isolated rainfall except Howrah, Hoogly, Kolkata and in North Bengal widespread rainfall is expected 5 districts, fairly widespread rainfall in North Dinajpur and scattered rainfall in remaining districts. On June 15 widespread rainfall is expected in 5 districts in North West Bengal. Fairly widespread rainfall in other districts. In South Bengal rainfall is predicted in all districts and among them Birbhum, West Burdwan, Bankura, West Medinipur and Jhargram districts will receive fairly widespread rainfall and other districts will receive scattered rainfall," he added.
He further said that on the 16th, 17th and 18th widespread rain is forecasted in North Bengal in 5 districts and moderate rain in all south districts.
He further said, "Today there is a warning of heavy rainfall in North Bengal. There is a red alert in Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar. In Darjeeling and Cooch Behar there is forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall. In other districts rainfall with thunderstorms is expected with wind speeds 30 kmph to 40 kmph. In South Bengal severe heatwave warnings in 3 districts, West Burdwan, West Medinipur and Purulia districts. Mild heatwave warning in Jhargram and Bankura districts. Extremely humid and sweaty weather in Birbhum, Hoogly, East Bardhaman, Murshidabad."
He further said that Kolkata is expected to get rain on 16, 17 and 18. (ANI)
