New Delhi, Jun 14 (ANI): Google has created a new doodle that celebrates the spirit of football, highlights world unity and showcases the diverse cultures of fans from across 32 participating countries of the FIFA World Cup that is scheduled to begin this Thursday in Russia. The doodle has been designed by 32 artists from different countries, and depicts the excitement of fans represented by drums and other instruments as they welcome the quadrennial tournament with great pomp and fervour. One of the fans depicted in the doodle is about to kick a football from the goalpost. The 21st FIFA World Cup will be kicked off at 8:30 pm (IST) at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium. The final is set to be played on July 15 at the same stadium. A total of 64 matches will be played in 12 venues located across 11 cities of Russia. Germany, the defending champions, will be aiming to secure their fifth title. Other teams that are amongst the favourites to win this year's FIFA World Cup include five-time winners Brazil, Spain, France and Portugal. Iceland and Panama will be participating in the tournament for the first time. This is also the first time that the World Cup is being hosted in Russia.
