New Delhi, Jul 12 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Piyush Goyal addressed a press conference on steps taken for reducing tax litigation in New Delhi on Thursday. During his address, the Union Minister assured that Government was taking major steps towards reducing tax litigation across the board and withdrawing cases in various courts from Appellate Tribunal level to the level of Supreme Court by enhancing limits for filing appeals by the government. He said, “The procedure to take a case to the Tax Tribunal in case of tax related issue has now been doubled to Rs 20 lakh from Rs 10 lakh. To now appeal in High Court the amount has been increased from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. To unclog surplus of cases in Supreme Court the earlier appeal of Rs 25 lakh has been made Rs 1 crore. This has led to an almost 41% reduction in cases of (direct) income tax cases.”
