Famous French diamond ‘Le Grand Mazarin’ auctioned for $15 million

Geneva (Switzerland), Nov 15 (ANI): A famous diamond ‘Le Grand Mazarin’ was sold for nearly $15 million at auction in Geneva. Linked to French royalty, Le Grand Mazarin is a 19 carats pink diamond that belonged to the French crown for more than 200 years and was part of its crown jewels. Christie's Auction House described the famous diamond as a "timeless symbol of beauty" and a "witness to 350 years of European history." The gem was originally mined in the 17th century from Golconda in south-central India. It bears the name of Cardinal Mazarin, who served as chief minister under Louis XIII and Louis XIV in France.Mazarin left the stone to Louis XIV, the ruler beheaded during the French revolution in 1792, in his will. The diamond was featured on the crown worn by Louis XVI.
