Equity indices edge higher, metal stocks gain

New Delhi, May 26(NAI): Metal stocks were trading in green, with the S&P BSE Metal index increasing 76.75 points or 0.78% at 9919.83 at 09:47 IST. Among the components of the S&P BSE Metal index, Hindalco Industries Ltd (up 1.79%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (up 1.6%),Hindustan Zinc Ltd (up 1.54%),Vedanta Ltd (up 1.37%),Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (up 1.13%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were NMDC Ltd (up 1.05%), Tata Steel Ltd (up 0.94%), JSW Steel Ltd (up 0.7%), and Steel Authority of India Ltd (up 0.25%). On the other hand, Coal India Ltd (down 0.7%), turned lower. At 09:47 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 39.77 or 0.1% at 40341.73. The Nifty 50 index was up 4.3 points or 0.04% at 11945.6. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 28.09 points or 0.21% at 13658.75. The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 13.87 points or 0.3% at 4704.48. On BSE,870 shares were trading in green, 613 were trading in red and 69 were unchanged.
