The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has registered a case against the former Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) chairman, and its four ex-members for allegedly committing irregularities in the recruitment of 312 medical officers (MO) during the year 2008-2009.
According to the statement, the case had been filed against Virdi, for amassing assets beyond his known sources of income while serving as a government official.
The police officer was identified as Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Baldev Singh, posted at the police post Laduka Mandi, under police station Sadar Fazilka. According to the VB officials he was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000.
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested another accused in the paddy scam in the grain markets of Ludhiana and other districts, said spokesperson Vigilance Bureau on Friday.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has registered a case against an assistant Inspector General (AIG) of the Human Rights Cell of the Punjab Police along with two others for alleged extortion and taking bribes from government employees, said officials.
According to an official release, the apprehended individuals have been identified as Vishal Kumar and Jatinder Kumar, who are both residents of Ludhiana.
"In a resolute crackdown on corruption within the state, the Vigilance Bureau Punjab made a significant arrest on Friday by apprehending two individuals extorting Rs 50,000 as a bribe from a government official under the guise of being journalists," said the release.
