A team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in a swift action rescued 20 people trapped in Ambagh area of Rishikesh following heavy waterlogging on Sunday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a red alert and predicted heavy rainfall with lightning in six districts of the state for the next twenty-four hours.
Brijesh Bhatt, District Disaster Officer of Tehri Garhwal, said that the Rishikesh-Chamba National Highway-94 is closed due to heavy debris and boulders coming near Bagadhar.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'Red' Alert and 'Orange' Alert for most of the districts of Uttarakhand from August 11 to August 14.
"Today, SDRF team was informed by District Disaster Management, Rudrapur that due to excessive waterlogging in Kashipur area many houses have been flooded in which many people are trapped for whose rescue SDRF is needed," said officials said.
Due to heavy rain, a wall collapsed near Chaurasi Kutiya in the Laxman Jhula area of Uttarakhand’s Rishikesh in the early hours of Thursday, and two people were buried under the debris, said authorities.
"Late night the SDRF team was informed by Thana Munikireti that due to the rise in the water level in the Rishikesh saline source area, people's houses have been flooded, in which the SDRF team is needed for the rescue of the trapped people," said officials.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday said that the disaster control centre had examined the state's rain situation. The CM also advised Char Dham pilgrims to proceed ontheir journey after taking a weather update, said officials.
