"Meeting BJP leaders doesn't really mean I'm going to join BJP. The bigger the leader of our party, the more he is in contact with BJP leaders," Kushwaha said while speaking to reporters.
Amid the speculation of Kushwaha's chances of joining the BJP, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday made a politically disapproving comment saying that Kushwaha had left the JDU thrice before eventually returning to it.
Reacting to the ongoing speculations of Janata Dal-United leader Upendra Kushwaha's alleged proximities with the BJP, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday said that he will meet him and discuss it.
"The statement will directly benefit BJP. The topic he spoke on is an agenda of BJP. Speaking on BJP's agenda means playing on their pitch. If we play there, who will benefit? BJP," Kushwaha told ANI.
Bihar Education Minister and RJD leader Chandrashekhar's remarks on Ramcharitmanas have created a tussle between two major parties of 'Mahagathbandhan' in Bihar-- Rashtriya Janata Dal and Janata Dal (United).
Kushwaha said in his statement, "If the opposition wants to debate and discuss any matter, they are welcome. But it's not right to halt the ongoings of the assembly in such a disruptive manner.''
Liquor has been banned in Bihar since April 2016 with severe punishment, up to a 10-year jail term. In March this year, the Liquor Amendment Bill was also passed by the Nitish government and implemented the same from April 1.
