Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur on Saturday congratulated Jyothi Yarraji for winning the bronze medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the FISU World University Games 2023 in Chengdu.
Jyothi Yarraji continued her blistering run of form at the World University Games to win bronze in the women’s 100m hurdles event in Chengdu, China. Amlan Borgohain ran his best time of the season to win bronze in the men’s 200m event later in the evening session.
Out of these 23 medals, 14 medals have come from Khelo India Athletes, while all medals in Shooting (14) have been won by Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Athletes and India's highest medal count by an individual (four, including three Gold) coming from TOPS Shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh
India’s Jyothi Yarraji clocked 12.78 seconds to set a new national record, winning the bronze medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the FISU World University Games 2023.
The 24-year-old Indian track and field athlete has the national record in men's high jump, hitting the mark of 2.29 m mark in 2018, as per Olympics.com. Shankar however, fell way short of his personal best during the Chengdu meet.
On Monday, India took home six medals. In addition to four gold medals, India received a silver medal in men's individual 10m air rifle from Divyansh Singh Panwar and a bronze medal in men's individual compound archery from Aman Saini, as per Olympics.com.
India secured a total of seven medals on Sunday, with shooters clinching a Gold, Silver and Bronze each. Indian archers also added a Gold, Silver and two Bronze medals to the tally, increasing it to 11, as per Olympics.com.
