Voicing concern over the raids by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police on the residences of journalists linked with the online portal NewsClick, the Editors Guild of India on Tuesday said the crackdown is "yet another attempt to muzzle the media."
According to officials, the raid was carried out on Wednesday afternoon at Nowdapara Railgate adjacent to National Highway 34 which falls under the jurisdiction of Berhampore Police Station in the district.
A total of 53 locations were raided during the day-long operation, which started early this morning. Pistols, ammunition, large numbers of digital devices and incriminating material, were seized during the raids that spanned the six States of Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, Uttarakhan
Coimbatore Islamic Federation condemned the raids carried out by the National Investigation Agency in Tamil Nadu and said the agency violates human rights in the name of raids.
During the raids, sleuths recovered over 56 kgs of drugs worth Rs 40 crores. "The cost of the seized drugs recovered from the possession of the arrest accused persons is estimated to be Rs 40 crore in the international market," the sleuths of the special cell said.
