The leopard who allegedly killed two people and injured four in the past 15 days in Nilgiri district's Pandalur area has been captured, forest officials said.
Two people were killed and four were injured in the past 15 days in Bandalur Nilgiri district in a leopard attack and the road was blocked at Pandalur for 11 hours to catch the leopard in Gudalur constituency on Saturday night.
The incident occurred in Khurda village, Manpur in the district. The villagers saw the leopard in the well on Tuesday morning and then they informed the forest department about the matter.
The leopard was first captured in the Kudlu Gate area but a forest officer fired at it in self-defence when it tried to attack him at a veterinary hospital later and subsequently it died of bullet injuries, said forest officials.
The officials further informed that the leopard was captured at the same place where, Lakshitha, a minor girl was killed in an attack by the wild beast last month.
After getting information, the Jammu and Kashmir Police along with senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Department rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, the search is on to capture the leopard, the Range Officer said.
The leopard with whom villagers were spotted playing and taking selfies with in Dewas district of the state recently is critically ill and undergoing treatment at the Indore Zoo, an official said.
It was seen in the viral video of the leopard that it neither roared nor attacked anyone. The villagers were treating the leopard like a cow’s calf. Such cases were seen in neurological disorders when the animal forgets its identity, the veterinary doctor said.
