The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) issued a stern warning on Tuesday that all the Internet Service Providers in the country will be punished if they do not shut down the Chinese social media platform TikTok.
Several complaints have been received as consumers claim that mobile services are being affected in some areas at different times while some people are facing a complete shutdown, Geo News reported.
"The United States wants to see the upholding of the democratic principles and law in Pakistan," Vedant Patel said in a statement while reacting to political developments in Pakistan.
The Amnesty International statement comes after the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on Tuesday suspended mobile broadband services across the nation after former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's arrest.
After Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's intervention, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) uplifted the ban on Wikipedia, but such arbitrary banning decisions by the apex internet regulatory body are not new, the Tribune reported.
In 2020, Pakistan threatened legal action against Google and Wikipedia for "disseminating sacrilegious content," regarding Islamic beliefs held by minority Muslim sects.
