Congress MP Imran Masood on Wednesday slammed the Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sukanta Majumdar over his criticism of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in connection with the alleged gang rape of a law student in Kolkata.
In a significant legal development, Union Minister of State for Education and DoNER Sukanta Majumdar has filed a writ petition before the Calcutta High Court challenging repeated illegal and arbitrary detentions by the state authorities.
While speaking to the reporters, Sukanta Majumdar said that he was detained thrice at different places. The BJP MP mentioned that he was detained on June 28 due to "democratic agitation" because of which he had to stay in the Lal Bazaar police station the entire night.
Majumdar pointed out that in the past eight months, two such incidents have occurred, first one the RG Kar rape and murder case and the recent rape of a student at a law college in South Kolkata.
