An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 on the Richter scale hit occurred 19 km SW of Malatya in Turkey, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) announced in a post on Twitter.
According to experts, Kolkata which is in Seismic Zone 4, is not on the radar of major earthquake tremors, but being adjacent to zone 5, Kolkata's high-rise buildings are risky if their design is not seismic.
"Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.1 occurred on 29-01-2023, 13:24:47 IST, Lat: 33.73 & Long: 72.65, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 37km W of Islamabad, Pakistan," NCS tweeted on Sunday.
Earthquakes in the Nenana Basin region of Interior Alaska last longer and feel much stronger than a quake of comparable magnitude would in a nonbasin region, due to the behavior of the seismic waves once they reach the area.
