India's agriculture sector is witnessing a transition toward sustainable and climate-resilient practices, said Sanjay Sethi, National Technical Coordinator at the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations.
Cloud seeding is an advanced weather modification science, intended to trigger or enhance rainfall from suitable clouds by introducing selected particles--such as silver iodide or sodium chloride--using aircraft or other means.
"In December 2024, the Central government told the Delhi government that rain from cloud seeding was scientifically not possible in Delhi. Why is the Delhi govt running this circus now? Why is the govt wasting the taxpayers' money?" AAP leader asked.
"It's shameful that yesterday the BJP lied, claiming they had artificially rained in Karol Bagh, Mayur Vihar, and Burari. When we checked, we found that not a single drop had fallen. Light rain is bound to happen anywhere, but the BJP also wants to take credit for real rain. The BJP has a
"According to the IMD, there is still 10 to 15 per cent moisture. Yesterday, our trial was conducted at 10 to 15 per cent moisture, and now the next trial will be held when the moisture exceeds that level. As per IMD, the moisture is expected to increase further after 4:00 PM. Once the mo
According to a statement issued by IIT Kanpur, the process is highly dependent on the right atmospheric conditions. "While rainfall could not be triggered yesterday because moisture levels were around 15 to 20 per cent, the trial delivered valuable insights."
As per the reports, a minimal rainfall of 0.1-0.2 mm was recorded around the Delhi-Noida border at 4 pm. Air quality from 20 locations across Delhi also showcased positive improvement. PM2.5 levels at Mayur Vihar, Karol Bagh, and Burari dropped from 221, 230, and 229 ug/m³ to 207, 20
The second cloud-seeding trial was conducted by IIT Kanpur on Tuesday, using a Cessna aircraft fitted with salt-based and silver iodide flares to induce rain. The first trial was conducted last week over Burari on September 23.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday expressed hope that the second trial of the cloud seeding exercise carried out in the national capital would yield positive results and help reduce pollution levels.
The operation was conducted by IIT-Kanpur using a Cessna aircraft fitted with salt-based and silver iodide flares to induce rain. The aircraft entered Delhi from the Meerut side and the experiment faced a slight delay from the scheduled 12:30 pm time due to poor visibility.
Speaking to ANI, Sirsa explained that the current visibility in Kanpur is around 2,000 metres, while a minimum of 5,000 metres is required for the aircraft to take off safely. He added that if conditions improve and the aircraft successfully takes off, cloud seeding over Delhi could be ca
