The accused in the Pune rape incident, who was detained by a team of the Pune Crime Branch from a village in Shirur Tehsil of Pune district, has now been formally arrested, official said on Friday.
The accused Dattatray Ramdas Gade was absconding since the incident happened on Tuesday, when the rape survivor, a working woman, was waiting for a bus to return home to Phaltan, which is located around 100 km away.
Pune City Police have launched a broad search for Dattatray Ramdas Gade, the absconding accused in the Swargate bus depot rape case. With 13 teams on the ground, they have also offered a cash reward for information leading to his arrest.
In response to the Pune Swargate bus depot rape incident, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has ordered a departmental inquiry against the Assistant Transport Superintendent and Bus Depot Manager. He also instructed a security personnel replacement at the depot.
"A complaint has been registered...We have identified the accused, and we are making all the efforts to nab him. The accused is identified as Dattatray Ramdas Gade. The victim is stable right now...," said Zone 2, DCP Smarthana Patil.
Speaking about the Maharashtra government forming a committee against 'love jihad', Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that these incidents were "very serious and action must be taken."
"There should be a law against love jihad. The conversion of women is not right. Two youngsters (of different religions) coming together is normal but girls shouldn't be forcefully converted," said Ramdas Athavale.
