After weeks of seismic activity forced the evacuation of a nearby village, a volcano in Iceland erupted suddenly on Monday, dazzling the night sky with stunning spurts of lava and smoke, CNN reported.
At least 116 people were killed and hundreds have sustained injuries after a powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.2 jolted an ethnic county in northwest China's Gansu Province, CNN reported citing the state media.
The USGS said the quake occurred 10 km North-northeast of Chiautla de Tapia, Mexico. It occurred at 2:03 pm (local time) at a depth of 44.4 kilometres, it added.
With an epicentre at Chitlang of Makwanpur district in the Himalayan nation, the quake was recorded at around 1:20 am (local time), however, no casualties were reported.
The earthquake victims in Gayan district of southeastern Paktika province in Afghanistan continue to remain without a roof on their heads and have complained that houses for many victims have yet to be built.
Nearly 800 quakes were recorded between midnight and 2 p.m. on Friday, with the shallowest at a depth of 3-3.5 kilometres (1.86-2.18 miles), according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office.
The earthquake survivors in Afghanistan's Herat are devoid of access to basic life necessities and are living under unsanitary conditions, Khaama Press reported, citing a World Health Organisation (WHO) report.
