The army personnel detained by Punjab Police in connection with firing at Bathinda Military Station has confessed his involvement in killing four of his colleagues, said Indian Army on Monday.
In a major breakthrough amid the continuing manhunt for fugitive Khalistan leader and radical preacher Amritpal Singh, Punjab police on Saturday arrested his close aide Joga Singh from Sirhind in the Fatehgarh Sahib district.
The Army said that the incident took place in Bathinda Military Station on Wednesday evening. The Army added that it has "no connection" with the incident that took place at the Bathinda Military Station yesterday in which four jawans succumbed to injuries.
Punjab Police on Wednesday registered an FIR against two unknown persons in the Bathinda Military Station firing where at least four jawans were killed.
According to sources all entry gates of the Army Cantonment in Bathinda have been closed. They said that one Insas rifle with 28 cartridges had gone missing about two days ago and some army personnel may be behind this incident.
A day after being arrested by Punjab Police, Papalpreet Singh, a close aide of fugitive Khalistan leader and 'Waris Punjab De' chief Amritpal Singh was brought to Assam's Dibrugarh Central Jail on Tuesday.
