Udhampur Police have arrested an absconding accused in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case after prolonged evasion of over two years, officials said here on Wednesday.
The Competent Authority under SAFEMA has confirmed the freezing order earlier issued by NCB, covering assets valued at approximately Rs 48.6 lakhs belonging to the accused in a major drug trafficking case, the NCB said.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Srinagar Zone, has uncovered a major drug smuggling racket in South Kashmir with the arrest of two individuals, including a former militant, and the seizure of 39 kilograms of poppy straw.
The CBN team also confiscated two trucks and six motorcycles during these operations. Of these actions against the illegal drugs, the arrest of three people and seizure of ganja and poppy straw was made on Thursday.
Thursday's seizure comes on the heels of previous successes, including the seizure of 103.4 kg of high-quality opium from a dumping yard on June 12 in Ranchi and 802 kg of poppy straw on May 31, from an interior location of Khunti district.
Two suspected drug peddlers have been held after 320 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from them in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, police said on Sunday.
The discovery of the smuggled contraband came to light during a routine check of police team from Police Station Udhampur, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Raghubir Choudhary.
"Police intercepted the vehicle at Jakhani Check Naka and during the search, 240 Kg of Poppy Straw was recovered," said Sham Singh Naib, Tehsildar, Udhampur.
