The counting of votes for the panchayat elections in Assam began on Sunday morning, with tight security and elaborate arrangements reported from various districts, including Kamrup and Dibrugarh.
The first phase of panchayat elections in Assam was conducted on Friday in 14 districts of the state. The 14 districts include Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Majuli, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Cachar, Hailakandi and Sribhumi.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday expressed confidence that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is all set to sweep the upcoming panchayat polls in the state.
