"NDA all set to sweep Panchayat elections in Assam": CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday expressed confidence that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is all set to sweep the upcoming panchayat polls in the state.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 18 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday expressed confidence that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is all set to sweep the upcoming panchayat polls in the state.
"The NDA has already secured 37 Zila Parishad (35 BJP and 2 AGP) and 288 Anchalik Panchayat (259 BJP and 29 AGP) seats unopposed. This is a massive and unprecedented mandate in Assam's political history. It reflects the immense trust and overwhelming love that the people of Assam have for the NDA and for our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi," the Assam Chief Minister wrote on X.
The Assam CM stated that the NDA is poised to sweep the Panchayat elections in Assam.
"We are confident that when the final election results are declared, this tally will grow even more impressive. The NDA is all set to sweep the Panchayat elections in Assam," he added.
Earlier today, the Congress released its manifesto for the Assam panchayat elections.
The party's manifesto was released by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah and senior party leader and former MP Ripun Bora during a programme held at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.
The Assam Panchayat elections are scheduled to be held in two phases. The first phase of the election will be held on May 2 across 14 districts, and the second phase will be held on May 7 in the remaining 13 districts. Counting of votes for both phases will take place on May 11.
More than 1.80 crore voters, including 90.71 lakh male voters, 89.65 lakh female voters and 408 other voters, will exercise their franchise in 25007 polling stations.
"There will be no political party-affiliated candidates at the Gaon Panchayat level. Political party-affiliated candidates will only be in the Anchalik Panchayat and Zilla Parishad levels," State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar said.
The State Election Commission said that there are 21920 Gaon Panchayat members, 2192 Gram Panchayat Presidents, 2192 Gram Panchayat Vice Presidents, 2192 Anchalik Panchayat members, 181 Anchalik Panchayat Presidents, 181 Anchalik Panchayat Vice Presidents and 397 Zilla Parishad members.
The panchayat polls in Assam will be held in two phases on May 2 and May 7. The counting of votes will be held on May 11. (ANI)
