Assam: Asom Gana Parishad to hold party meeting on July 24

This meeting will be significant ahead of the upcoming bye-elections in five assembly constituencies and Panchayat elections in Assam.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 23 (ANI): A crucial executive meeting of NDA's partner party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will be held on July 24 at the party headquarters in Guwahati, Assam.
This meeting will be significant ahead of the upcoming bye-elections in five assembly constituencies and Panchayat elections in Assam.
AGP president and Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora told ANI that the party's executive meeting will be held tomorrow.
He also said that the issues on upcoming bye-elections and Panchayat polls in the state will be discussed during the meeting.
"Bye elections for five assembly constituencies in the state will be held and four constituencies were under the NDA and one won by Congress. This time NDA will win all five seats in bye-elections," Atul Bora said.
Speaking about continuing as an NDA partner, the AGP president said that, AGP has been an old partner of the BJP since long back.
"When AGP came to power in 1996 for the second time, AGP made an alliance with BJP in 1998-99. Alliance with BJP will be continued in coming days also," Atul Bora said.
Bye-elections are going to take place in five legislative assemblies and two Rajya Sabha seats of Assam.
In the last Lok Sabha Elections, according to Election Commission of India figures, BJP won nine seats, Congress won three, BJP's allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United Peoples' Party, Liberal (UPPL) got one each out of the total 14 seats Lok Sabha seats in Assam.
The voting was held in three phases in Assam on April 19, April 26 and May 7 across the 14 constituencies namely Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Diphu, Darrang-Udalguri, Karinganj, Silchar, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Guwahati. (ANI)
