An exchange of fire took place between police and the Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Koyalibeda area on Thursday morning, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kanker Kalyan Elesela said.
After a local leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was killed by suspected Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur on Friday, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has said that their fight against Naxals is at a "decisive juncture."
"A naxal named Nagesh (38) has surrendered today...He was disturbed by the ideology of the Naxals...I appeal to all the Naxals to surrender this way and lead a good life...," Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said in a video statement.
A joint team of police and Border Security Force (BSF) security forces have gunned down three naxals in an encounter that took place in insurgency-hit Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, Kanker SP Indira Kalyan Elesela said.
According to the police, the team had set out from Dumaripalnar camp for area domination and demining. The blast took place between Dumripalnar and Teemenar area today.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed its first chargesheet against five accused in a case relating to attempts by the Naxals to revive its terror plans and agenda in various states of India, the agency said on Wednesday.
