A significant temperature rise was recorded in Himachal Pradesh. According to reports, Shimla recorded the highest maximum temperature of 28.4 C on the 23rd and 24th Sept 2024 both days and 2nd highest of 27.2 C on the 20th Sept 2024, in the last 10 years.
"With 39.2°C on Sunday, feels like the temperature surges to 55°C at 5 pm. The current weather conditions were the hottest since the 2015 heatwave during which the maximum temperature," Sarfaraz said.
The record-high temperatures and heatwave in Delhi, which have resulted in maximum temperatures rising to around 50 degrees Celsius in some places, have also caused an extraordinary and excessive surge in water demand in the city.

A severe heatwave continued to prevail in several parts of Rajasthan on Wednesday with Churu in the state recording the maximum temperature of 50.5 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, said India Meteorological Department.
According to the Meteorological Centre Jaipur, Churu on Tuesday recorded the season's highest temperature at 50.5 °C, 7.5 degrees above normal, while Pilani recorded its highest-ever temperature at 49 °C.
