Heatwave grips Odisha: Jharsuguda records highest temperature at 47 degree Celsius

Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature in the state as the mercury soared to 47 degrees Celsius in the western Odisha district on Thursday.

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], May 31 (ANI): Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature in the state as the mercury soared to 47 degrees Celsius in the western Odisha district on Thursday.
Following closely behind were Titlagarh at 46.5 degrees Celsius, Bargarh at 46.3 degrees Celsius, and Sambalpur at 46.2 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar.
Significantly, Jharsuguda broke previous records with its maximum temperature reaching 47 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has issued a heatwave alert for 11 districts in Odisha.
Additionally, eight places in Odisha recorded temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius and above on Friday.
Four individuals succumbed to heatstroke and passed away at the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) in Sundargarh on Friday morning, according to an official.
Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Rourkela, Ashutosh Kulkarni shared details about the heatwave-related deaths and said, "As many as 50 patients were brought to the RGH Hospital yesterday following extreme heatwave conditions in the district, after which all of them were admitted. Four people succumbed to the heatstroke and died here at the hospital in Rourkela."
"As of now, 25 patients are admitted at the RGH Hospital, out of which more than 10 have been referred to the high-tech hospital. 8 people were brought dead at the hospital. A post-mortem investigation is underway for those eight deceased," said the official.
Earlier in the day, five individuals died from heatstroke at a hospital in Bihar's Aurangabad district.
The death toll in Bihar's Aurangabad due to heatwave conditions, which stood at 12 earlier, has risen to 17 as of Friday.
Heatwave conditions persistently affect parts of India, resulting in at least 54 fatalities and pushing temperatures to unbearable levels.
Bihar remains the worst-hit state, with over 24 deaths attributed to the extreme heat. (ANI)
