Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the Indian diaspora in Mauritius, reminiscing about his previous visit to the island nation exactly 10 years ago, which coincided with the festive occasion of Holi.
In a historic gesture, the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam has announced the highest award, The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to the Ayurveda garden at the State House in Mauritius on Tuesday which has been developed in collaboration with the Government of India. He visited the garden along with the President of Mauritius, Dharambeer Gokhool.
Jaiswal said that PM Modi planted a Bael sapling in the garden, contributing to the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative alongwith Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam.
Jaiswal talked about the warm welcome PM Modi received at the airport, and said that later in the day, he would address the Indian diaspora and would also hold a meeting with the President of Mauritius, Anerood Jugnauth.
Prior to this, he had undertaken a similar initiative during his visit to Guyana as well. Due to the incessant efforts of PM Modi, the initiative has resulted in planting of more than 1 billion trees in India.
In his departure statement on Monday, PM Modi said that he looks forward to the opportunity to engage with the Mauritius leadership during his visit to elevate bilateral partnership and strengthen friendship for security and development in the Indian Ocean Region.
