Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in a press conference on Saturday, announced that approximately 12 to 15 crore people are expected to take a bath at the Sangam in Prayagraj during the upcoming Magh Mela over the next 1.5 months.
Notably, 30 people reportedly lost their lives at the stampede that occurred on the occasion of the Mauni Amavasya bathing ritual on January 29 at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
Yadav was referring to the stampede incident at Mahakumbh, which occurred on Mauni Amavasya, killing 30 people. She said that the government must hand over the bodies of the deceased to their kin.
Expressing sorrow over the unfortunate incident on Mauni Amavasya, the Governor said, "We are deeply saddened by this tragedy." She extended her condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
