The seventh and final phase of polling in the largest festival of democracy started on Saturday as voting started in the last 57 parliamentary constituencies at 7 am across seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Prime Minister Modi is currently in Kanniyakumari, engaged in meditation at the Dhyan Mandapam, the very site where revered Hindu philosopher Swami Vivekananda is believed to have had a divine vision about 'Bharat Mata'. His meditation is slated to continue till today.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also posted on X and appealed to voters, especially in Uttar Pradesh to elect a government that works on development issues.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 45-hour meditation on the Vivekananda Rock Memorial that began on Thursday continued today and will conclude on Saturday evening.
The elections, held in seven phases, from April 19 saw people exercising their democratic right even as temperatures rose in peak summer. The Election Commission made special efforts to ensure large participation of people in the elections.
The seven states in which polling is scheduled include Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal. Polling for remaining 42 Assembly Constituencies of the Odisha State Legislative Assembly will also take place simultaneously.
In anticipation of the June 4 Lok Sabha election results, Congress leaders have been reviewing party preparations, inspecting strong rooms, and visiting vote-counting centres to ensure a smooth and fair counting process.
