The TTP has deep historical ties with the Afghan Taliban, al-Qaeda and the Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP). It is a by-product of al-Qaeda's jihadi politics in Afghanistan and Pakistan after 9/11.
A police checkpoint in Shahbazkhel town of the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was attacked by terrorists, resulting in the death of a police constable and a terrorist, the Dawn reported on Monday.

A police constable and a terrorist were killed in Pakistan on Sunday after a gunman attacked a police checkpost in the Shahbaz Khel area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Lakki Marwat District, a local police official said, according to a report in The Dawn.
In its annual report, the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) said Pakistan security forces lost at least 282 personnel during 2022 in attacks that included IED ambushes, suicide attacks, and raids on security posts, mostly in the Pakistan-Afghan border regions.
As per District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Shoaib, a group of terrorists attacked a police picket, located in the limits of Kulachi police station in Dera Ismail Khan. The terrorists were equipped with the latest weapons including rocket launchers.
"From tomorrow, demonstrations will be staged against inflation and the sinking economy [...] and this movement will continue until the incumbent government is sent packing," Dawn quoted Fawad Chaudhry as saying on Thursday.
Blaming the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for not paying heed to the security of the region, Pakistan Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Wednesday said that an estimated number of around 7,000 to 10,000 Tehreek-i-Taliban-Pakistan (TTP) militants are present in the region, Dawn reported.
