Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday met with Karnataka party leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar at his residence in the national capital ahead of the departure to Karnataka.
Karnataka State Congress chief D K Shivakumar on Thursday said that he has agreed to the decision of the party high command to become the new deputy chief minister of the State in the larger interest of the party.
Congress leader Siddaramaiah and Karnataka party president DK Shivakumar together arrived at party president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in the national capital on Thursday.
"I am not fully happy but in the interest of Karnataka, we wanted to fulfil our commitment...That is why DK Shivakumar had to accept. In future we will see, there is a long way to go. ...I wish it (CM post for DK Shivakumar) but it didn't happen, we will wait and see," said Congress MP DK
In 2018, when Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy was sworn in as the chief minister of Karnataka coalition government, a galaxy of Opposition leaders attended the ceremony.
According to sources while Siddharamaiah will get the CM position, the Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar will be the Deputy Chief Minister. The oath-taking ceremony is set to be held in Bengaluru on May 20.
Shivakumar was seen arriving at the residence of his brother and party MP DK Suresh in the national capital today. He is set to meet with Kharge and Rahul Gandhi later this evening.
