After being announced as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Kathua Assembly Constituency, Bharat Bhushan thanked BJP and the top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the list, the BJP has fielded Mohd Irnees Karnahi from Karnah, Ghulam Mohammad Mir from Handwara, Abdul Rashid Khan from Sonawari, Naseer Ahmad Lone from Bandipora, Faqir Mohammad Khan from Gurez (ST), and RS Pathania from Udhampur East.
"BJP will do everything possible to defame the National Conference, but we will win and change the fate of the people," said the National Conference chief.
